Ontario teachers' union launches strike vote Nov. 6-16
The Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation announced a strike vote to run Nov. 6-16 amid ongoing negotiations with the provincial government over student supports, school safety, class sizes, staffing, contracting out and teacher recruitment and retention. The announcement came at OSSTF/FEESO's provincial council meeting in Toronto and applies in District 6A, which represents about 1,100 members in Lakehead Public Schools and the Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board. OSSTF leader Bobbi-Lynn Piccolo said the vote is a bargaining step but does not by itself permit legal strike action, and the Ontario Labour Relations Board must decide some jurisdictional issues first.
OSSTF will hold a strike vote from Nov. 6 to Nov. 16.
