Nigeria ends foreign scholarships to fund domestic research prizes
Nigeria's federal government announced it will end certain foreign scholarship and Bilateral Education Agreement (BEA) arrangements and redirect public funds to strengthen domestic tertiary institutions, research and innovation. Education minister Maruf Tunji Alausa unveiled the Tertiary Institutions National Laureate Prize, with an envisaged annual pool of approximately N365 million to reward undergraduate, master and doctoral work that has commercial, industrial or developmental application, including special awards such as the Stella Adadevoh Prize for medicine.
