Floods leave hundreds of children missing in Nepal
Flash floods triggered by an ice-rock avalanche near the Nepal-Tibet border on 26 August devastated towns in northern and central Nepal. The national death toll rose to 1,295 and security forces estimate roughly 5,000 people remain missing, while 13,093 people have been rescued and 1,293 bodies were recovered from eight districts. Around 280 children are missing in Rasuwa and an estimated 300–350 in Nuwakot, with 22 teachers and school staff missing and 12 schools completely destroyed, complicating verification and recovery work.
About 600 schoolchildren remain unaccounted for after flash floods.
