Floods disrupt education for thousands of children in Nepal
One month after floods struck central and northern Nepal, initial assessments show learning disrupted for over 14,000 children across 62 schools and learning centres, and about 440 students and education personnel are dead or missing, including 414 children. UNICEF and partners have supported 48 temporary learning centres, helping more than 1,400 children return to learning, and provided learning materials and psychosocial support. The Education Rapid Needs Assessment warns that significant investment is needed to restore damaged education infrastructure. Damaged roads and schools used as shelters continue to limit access to education, health and water services in hardest-hit communities.
