California provides free emergency albuterol inhalers to schools
California has launched the School Albuterol Access Initiative through its CalRx program and a partnership with Amneal Pharmaceuticals to supply public and charter schools with an annual emergency stock of two 90-microgram albuterol metered-dose inhalers and 25 single-use spacers at no cost for three years. The program, funded in the 2025-26 state budget and expected to reach about 10,000 schools, allows schools to obtain medication under a standing order signed by the state public health officer and offers training guidelines from the California School Nurses Organization. Private schools can buy discounted supplies and all schools may purchase refills at CalRx prices.
