Fire reveals suspected illegal Bitcoin mine in Thailand

Firefighters put out a blaze on July 15 at a three-storey shophouse in Mueang district, Kanchanaburi, and officials then found over 20 computers, large air-conditioning units and soundproofing consistent with a Bitcoin mining setup. Provincial Electricity Authority inspectors reported modified wiring that bypassed the meter and estimated the operation would use 100,000–200,000 baht of electricity monthly, while the recorded bill was about 1,000 baht. Investigators suspect an electrical short in the control panel caused the fire. The discovery follows a July 9 raid in Pathum Thani that seized mining rigs and alleged long-term meter bypassing.
