Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that the United States has designated the Ecuadorean gang Los Tiguerones as a foreign terrorist organization and a specially designated global terrorist, a move intended to deny the group access to financial resources and U.S. banking networks. Rubio made the announcement in Quito after meeting President Daniel Noboa, who has agreed to formal joint military operations with the United States. While the labels give legal tools to freeze or seize assets, analysts say the group operates largely outside formal banks and trades for gold, so the designation may have limited financial disruption even as it lays groundwork for joint security actions.
