Police probe death of former MP Ann Widdecombe

2 min read

Devon and Cornwall police are investigating the death of former MP Ann Widdecombe after her body was found with serious injuries at her Haytor home at 11:40am on Thursday, according to the force and the ambulance service. A 26-year-old white British man arrested at an address in Newton Abbot was later released and is no longer part of the inquiry. Assistant chief constable Matt Longman said detectives continue numerous enquiries, that priority remains identifying those responsible, and that an initial counter-terrorism consultation ruled out a terrorist motive and investigators do not currently regard the killing as politically motivated.

A suspect was released and police continue enquiries into Widdecombe's death.
