South Korea combats illegal AI pornography

South Korea operates a government-founded National Center for Digital Sexual Crime Response where 23 women specialists trawl the web, file delete requests backed by legal action, collect evidence for prosecutions and provide counselling and legal help to victims. The centre opened after 2018 anti-spycam protests and now uses its own AI monitoring tools as deepfake circulation surged 550 percent globally from 2019 to 2023, according to Security Hero. Nearly 98 percent of the content was AI-generated pornography of women, with more than half the victims in South Korea, and penalties were increased in 2024.
