FCT police uncover fake diplomatic number plate network

The Federal Capital Territory Police command said it uncovered a criminal network making and circulating fake diplomatic and official government number plates that criminals used to evade checkpoints and enter restricted locations. Commissioner Ahmed Sanusi said investigations, launched after he assumed office, recovered multiple counterfeit plates and placed linked suspects in custody, and that producers operating outside the FCT have been identified. He reported buyers paid between ₦500,000 and ₦1.7 million for plates. Separate intelligence-led operations also recovered stolen public infrastructure, and the command said it will widen probes and press charges after investigation.
