Ukraine strikes Russian refineries as Moscow fires drones at Kyiv
Explosions were heard in Russia's Bashkortostan region on September 23 with fires reported near the Ufa refinery and on the grounds of the Kuibyshev Oil Refinery in Samara, about 1,300–1,400 kilometres from the Ukrainian border. Ukrainian Defence Intelligence said a vacuum oil distillation tower at the Novo Ufa refinery suffered significant damage, while an OSINT analyst identified smoke near the Ufa refinery. Russia said it intercepted hundreds of drones across many regions as it launched deadly strikes on Kyiv that killed at least two and injured 22, and diplomatic tensions rose over Western missile support for Ukraine.
