Houthis threaten Saudi pipeline and Abqaiq oil plant
The Iran-backed Houthi rebels have seized parts of the Yemeni coast including control over the Bab al-Mandeb Strait and have attacked Saudi energy infrastructure, notably the 745-mile East-West pipeline and the Abqaiq processing plant. The pipeline has been carrying about 4 million barrels a day and Abqaiq stabilizes roughly 7% of global crude, while Red Sea exports fell from 4.6 million to about 2.5 million barrels a day after the attacks, according to the IEA and industry reporting. Analysts warn damage to a single pipeline segment or Abqaiq disruption could cause widespread rerouting, longer voyages and near-term oil price shocks.
