U.S. restricts Iran delegation size and spending at UN
The U.S. State Department has reduced the size of Iranian president Masoud Pezeshkian's delegation to the U.N. General Assembly and imposed travel and commerce limits on approved diplomats, including prohibitions on luxury purchases and wholesale club memberships. Pezeshkian will still deliver a U.N. address while accompanied by chief of staff Mohsen Haji-Mirzaei and protocol deputy Seyyed Abbas Mousavi, and foreign minister Abbas Araghchi will also attend after a stop in Qatar. Iranian state media reported that some communications staff were denied U.S. visas, and Tehran's foreign ministry called the shopping restrictions a "theatrical announcement."
