Iran says it continues to exchange messages with the United States but that conditions for negotiations are absent, foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei told ORF. He said Iran's immediate priority is defending sovereignty and accused US strikes of destroying the conditions for diplomacy, calling them a continuation of an "illegal war." Baqaei also said Iran has secured shipping in the Strait of Hormuz while rejecting turns that threaten national security, blamed the US and Israel for escalation, and noted that European states failed to meet commitments after the US left the 2015 nuclear deal.
