Yemen's Houthi fighters seized the strategic Red Sea port city of Mokha and are advancing toward the Bab el-Mandeb strait, a narrow chokepoint that links Asia to Europe via the Red Sea and Suez Canal. The strait, together with Hormuz, handles about one quarter of daily petroleum and crude shipments and nearly one-third of global maritime trade, so Houthi control could threaten shipping and energy flows.
