China coast guard rams Philippine fisheries vessel near Palawan
The China Coast Guard vessel CCG-21585 struck the starboard side of BFAR's BRP Datu Magat Salamat around 11:13 a.m. while the Philippine ship was delivering fuel about 100 kilometers off Palawan, according to the Philippine Coast Guard. The BFAR vessel suffered rail, deck and stanchion damage and cut short its fuel distribution mission, returning to Coron for seaworthiness checks and escort. China disputed the account, blaming the Philippine vessel for altering course. Philippine authorities said they will report the incident to the national task force and cited violations of maritime safety rules and international law.
