Samsung prepares to manufacture Tesla's AI5 chip

Samsung Electronics has begun preparing to manufacture Tesla's next-generation AI chip, the AI5, after a Samsung executive's LinkedIn post said the chip completed tape-out. The chip, designed to power Tesla's Full Self-Driving system, Optimus robots and AI data centers, is planned to be fabricated on Samsung's 2-nanometer process at the company's Taylor, Texas foundry. The Taylor plant is slated to begin initial operations later this year, with mass production for major customers including Tesla expected in 2027, which could affect Tesla product timelines and Samsung's foundry workload.

Samsung will make Tesla's AI5 using a 2-nanometer process.
