Huawei unveils UnifiedBus to link up to 1 million processors
Huawei introduced the Peerium computing architecture built around UnifiedBus, a high-speed interconnect that links CPUs, NPUs, memory, storage and networking into tightly coupled SuperPoDs and SuperClusters and could scale toward systems containing as many as one million processors. UnifiedBus 1.0 first appeared in the Atlas 900 A3 SuperPoD linking up to 384 Ascend AI processors; Huawei later scaled to 8,192 processors and disclosed a 256,000-card Atlas 950 SuperCluster composed of multiple SuperPoDs, while an Atlas 960 using near-packaged optics is under test. Huawei published UnifiedBus 2.0 specs to seed an ecosystem amid US manufacturing constraints.
