Europe orders Bull supercomputer for AI network

EuroHPC has selected French state-owned Bull to build LUMI-AI, a €387.8 million supercomputer to be installed alongside the existing LUMI machine in Finland and expected online in the second half of 2027. Funding is split equally between EuroHPC and the LUMI AI Factory consortium of six countries. The system will run large-scale AI training and inference and heavy scientific simulation, using AMD chips, IBM storage and Nokia networking. The order adds to an EuroHPC network backed by an €8.2 billion 2021-2027 budget and supports European attempts to bolster AI infrastructure and compete with US and Chinese capacity.
