EU creates team to enforce new AI rules

The European Union has created a new enforcement team in Brussels and added dozens of staff to implement its AI Act, which comes into force on Sunday. The team will track AI model misuse worldwide, including the publication of sexually explicit material, fake photos and videos, and cyber threats to public infrastructure. The law will require AI companies to label or digitally watermark AI-generated chatbots and imagery, and it highlights systemic risks such as chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear incidents, loss of control, cyber offence, harmful manipulation and threats to fundamental rights. Immediate consequences include increased compliance demands for global AI providers and new monitoring by EU authorities.
