French federation signs Zidane as national team coach

2 min read

The French Football Federation signed Zinedine Zidane as senior national team coach before a new professional sports governance law took effect, meaning the federation does not need a ministry exception to exceed the 450,000-euro annual salary ceiling set by lawmakers in July. The law was set by a joint parliamentary committee on 8 July and adopted by the National Assembly and Senate on 20 and 21 July. Zidane's pay reportedly far surpasses the cap and remains confidential, while Sport Minister Marina Ferrari said the federation has its own resources and she did not wish to intervene.

Zidane was signed before the salary cap law took effect.
