7.7 magnitude quake strikes off Flores coast
A magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck off Indonesia's Flores region early on August 15, 2026, at about 10 kilometres depth and roughly 68 kilometres north-northwest of Ende. Authorities reported at least 47 deaths and dozens injured, with more than 150 homes flattened, about 100 public facilities destroyed or damaged, and roughly 2,000 people displaced. The quake produced at least 235 aftershocks (largest M6.2) and generated tsunami waves measured up to 1.61 metres in Riung; landslides and blocked roads have hampered rescue and relief operations in remote areas.
