Punjab requests Rangers deployment ahead of PTI protest
Punjab asked the federal government to deploy Pakistan Rangers in Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum and Mianwali from Sept 22 to Oct 5, specifying three companies for Rawalpindi (one for the city, two for Taxila), five wings for Attock and one company each for Jhelum and Mianwali. The provincial home department also sought temporary mobile and internet signal downgrades in selected Attock and Rawalpindi areas ahead of a Sept 27 PTI long march, while Section 144 was imposed across Punjab and for two months in Islamabad. Separately, transporters say more than 3,000 containers and trailers were detained, causing reported losses and risks to perishable cargo.
