Former Honduran president Hernandez to return to Honduras

Former Honduran president Juan Orlando Hernandez will return to Honduras eight months after a U.S. pardon that came while he was serving a 45-year U.S. sentence for drug and weapons trafficking. He is due to land at Palmerola airport and is scheduled to appear before a Honduran court on August 3 to face fraud and money laundering charges; an arrest warrant was suspended so he will not be detained on arrival. The U.S. pardon issued by Donald Trump did not affect domestic charges and prompted complaints of U.S. interference, while a Pandora II probe alleges nearly $11 million was diverted to campaigns.
