Malaysia urges equal pathogen and benefit sharing under WHO pandemic framework
Malaysia called for pathogen sharing and benefit-sharing to be placed on an equal footing within the World Health Organization pandemic framework, urging a robust and equitable Pathogen Access and Benefit-Sharing (PABS) annex while insisting the framework respect national legislation and state sovereignty. Foreign minister Mohamad Hasan spoke at a UN General Assembly high-level meeting as member states continue negotiations on the annex following adoption of the WHO Pandemic Agreement in May 2025; the annex outcome is to be submitted to the World Health Assembly by May 2027 or earlier at a special 2026 session.
