Lilly's oral GLP-1 Foundayo reduces cardiovascular risk versus insulin
Eli Lilly presented full Achieve-4 results showing its oral GLP-1, Foundayo (orforglipron), was noninferior to titrated insulin glargine for time to first MACE‑4 while producing greater cardiometabolic benefits. Foundayo reduced A1C by 1.6% from an 8.22% baseline at 52 weeks versus a 1.0% fall with insulin, and caused 8.8% mean weight loss (about 18 pounds) versus a 1.7% weight gain on insulin. Prespecified analyses reported 23% lower MACE‑3, 53% lower cardiovascular death, and 57% lower all‑cause mortality versus insulin; other measures improved and kidney decline slowed. The findings reinforce treatment and regulatory implications.
Foundayo lowered major cardiovascular events and improved glucose and weight.
