DRC receives 70,000 Ervebo vaccine doses
The Democratic Republic of the Congo has received 70,000 doses of the Ervebo Ebola vaccine to support response to the ongoing Bundibugyo virus outbreak, WHO and Africa CDC said. The allocation follows a DRC request to the ICG stockpile and splits 20,000 doses for a Phase III trial to test Ervebo against Bundibugyo and 50,000 doses for frontline and health workers under WHO SAGE guidance. The outbreak, declared 15 May, has reported 4,665 confirmed cases and 2,184 deaths as of 12 August and has spread to 54 health zones across six provinces, increasing urgency to protect workers and generate evidence.
Twenty thousand Ervebo doses will be used for a Phase III trial.
