Britain deploys Ebola specialists to South Sudan
A fast-growing outbreak of the Bundibugyo species of Ebola in the Democratic Republic of Congo has prompted Britain to send three specialists from the UK Health Security Agency's Public Health Rapid Support Team to the South Sudanese capital, Juba. The team will train local authorities on infection control, run community awareness and test people crossing the 500-mile border, while the UK has also supported an information-sharing memorandum between the DRC and neighbours. The outbreak has caused over 7,800 reported infections and about 3,700 deaths since May, and the strain currently lacks an approved vaccine or treatment.
