Sotheby's to auction van Gogh and Cézanne works
Sotheby's will offer two rarely seen masterworks from the Blaquier-Arrieta family in New York this fall: Vincent van Gogh's Châtaigniers-en-fleurs, estimated at $180 million, and Paul Cézanne's Arlequin, estimated around $120 million. The pair join ten other Impressionist and Post-Impressionist works, including Monet and Renoir, that together could total about $450 million in a single evening. The collection has been privately held since the 1970s and was unveiled in London before touring for sale; the consignors are the Blaquier children after the deaths of Nelly (2020) and Carlos (2023).
