Dutch museum displays 88 Van Gogh paintings together
The Kroller-Muller Museum in the central Netherlands has opened an exhibition showing all 88 paintings by Vincent Van Gogh that it holds, a display not seen since 1984. The collection includes The Potato Eaters, Cafe Terrace at Night and The Old Tower at Nuenen. Curators organized the show around the themes of faith, hope and love to examine Van Gogh’s motives and artistic development rather than repeating the conventional tortured-artist narrative. Most of the works were acquired by founder Helene Kroller-Muller between 1908 and 1930, and the reunion doubles the usual number of Van Gogh paintings on display there.
