BTS withdraws from 2027 Grammys over new Asian pop category

BTS said it will not enter its recent releases for consideration at the 69th Grammy Awards in February 2027 after the Recording Academy introduced a Best Asian Pop Music Performance category in June. The group posted a joint statement on members' Instagram Stories saying they want their music to be heard as music, not divided by language or region. The announcement follows BTS's strong commercial year, including the March release Arirang, which opened at number one on the Billboard 200 with 641,000 equivalent album units, and the single "SWIM" topping the Hot 100. The decision has prompted widespread debate among fans and industry observers.
