Philippine president signs Last Mile and GIDA Schools Act

Republic Act No. 12321, the Last Mile and GIDA Schools Act, creates a national DepEd program to address infrastructure, resources, teacher support and services in remote and underserved public basic education institutions. It defines qualifying schools and directs DepEd to adopt a three-kilometre school accessibility standard, publish a national Last Mile and GIDA Schools Map within one year, and roll out tailored programs such as alternative learning delivery modes, feeding, water and sanitation, electrification and computerization. DPWH must build and maintain access roads and local governments must assist with transport or alternative delivery, while funding will come from agencies' budgets.
