Philippine bishops uphold constitution during vice president impeachment

Philippine Catholic bishops said they are monitoring the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte and stressed that the Church will not take sides but will uphold the Constitution and the rule of law. CBCP Episcopal Commission on Interreligious Dialogue chair Bishop Jose Colin Bagaforo said the Church seeks justice for alleged corruption and accountability from public officials, and urged proper stewardship of power and services. He also called for national unity beyond partisan colors and repeated a unifying prayer, "God is first," framing the bishops as a moral conscience while the Senate process proceeds.
