Nigeria says one million out-of-school children returned to school
The federal education ministry reported that more than one million out-of-school children returned to classrooms in the past 20 months and that nearly 6.7 million girls benefited from access and retention interventions. Minister maruf tunji alausa sought deeper partnership with the newly arrived UNESCO country representative to scale technical support in TVET, teacher capacity, reintegration of out-of-school children, data digitalisation and quality assurance. UNESCO said its programmes had trained over 28,000 teachers and reached more than 1.7 million students and offered specialised technical institutes to support Nigeria's stated reform priorities.
