Investor to build 28 hostels at University of Cape Coast
The University of Cape Coast will receive a US$500 million private investment from GSC Property Investment to build 28 hostel blocks with capacity for up to 28,000 students under a public-private partnership. The developer expects to complete construction within five years at no direct cost to the state, after which facilities will transfer to the university following the concession period. The project includes a commercial centre, catering, entertainment and cinema, a student activity centre, parking and other support infrastructure. Feasibility studies and Ministry of Finance approval are required, with a target to begin work in January 2027.
US$500 million PPP will build housing for 28,000 students.
Context
The university faces an acute housing shortage. The government and investor agreed a PPP to address the deficit. Feasibility studies and Ministry of Finance approval must finish before construction can start.
