Tether's XAU₮ recognized as accepted spot commodity by ADGM

3 min read

Tether's gold-backed token XAU₮ has been designated an accepted spot commodity by the Abu Dhabi Global Market's Financial Services Regulatory Authority, allowing licensed firms in the free zone to carry out regulated activities involving the tokenized gold product. Each XAU₮ represents one troy ounce of gold and the token has a market capitalization of about $2.85 billion backed by roughly 1,804 gold bars; it operates on Ethereum and TRON. The move follows ADGM recognition of USD₮ as an accepted fiat-referenced token in December 2025 and reduces a major regulatory hurdle for institutional exposure to tokenized gold.

Licensed ADGM firms can now offer regulated trading in XAU₮.
