Russia bans cryptocurrency mining in Moscow and other regions

1 min read

The Russian government has issued a decree banning cryptocurrency mining in several regions from August 15, 2026, until December 31, 2032. The restriction covers Moscow, the Moscow Region and specified parts of the Kursk Region, where the decree names eight municipal districts and the city of Lgov. The energy ministry prepared a draft decree in late June that led to the formal measure. The immediate consequence is a legally defined multi-year prohibition on mining activities in the listed territories, giving operators and authorities a set timeline and explicit geographic scope for enforcement.

Ban runs from August 15, 2026 to December 31, 2032.
