Ethereum developers set October 6 Sepolia activation date
Ethereum developers agreed at a September 3 ACDC meeting to target October 6 at 13:53 UTC for Glamsterdam's activation on the Sepolia testnet, but they stressed the date is conditional. The upgrade has slipped from a first-half-2026 mainnet aim to the fourth quarter after Platåberget and a sequence of devnets uncovered problems: Devnet-8 exposed a consensus bug, Devnet-9 could not finalize normally, and EIP-8037 required execution client fixes. Developers launched Devnet-11 with 84,000 validators to test at scale; Sepolia, then Hoodi, must run cleanly before mainnet activation.
Sepolia activation depends on Devnet-11 stability.
Context
Developers ran nine sequential devnets before September. Those tests found consensus and finalization problems. If larger devnets stabilize, Sepolia and Hoodi could follow and then mainnet.
