Binance handed customer data to Russian investigators
Reuters reported that Binance provided Russian authorities with personal identification and cryptocurrency transaction records for Yuri Belenkiy, a 49-year-old IT specialist accused of sending more than $700 in crypto donations linked to Ukraine and a group Moscow designates as terrorist. The records reportedly included date of birth, address, phone number, passport number, and copies of his passport and Bulgarian residency permit, and were incorporated into evidence. Binance says it complies with lawful requests, but the disclosure occurred after the company said it had exited Russia, and it has raised questions about GDPR applicability and possible further identification of other donors.
