Investigators in Europe say Binance, the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange, quietly changed how it cooperates with law enforcement, implementing in April last year a rule that requires some requests be routed to foreign government agencies. That policy, together with the departure of a group of senior compliance employees, has frustrated police from multiple European countries and channeled many requests to the United Arab Emirates, slowing response times. Binance says it did not reduce cooperation and framed the change as a step to follow regulations and privacy laws, but investigators warn the shift hampers efforts to track scammers and financial crime.
