RFI and Safeheron pilot ML-DSA-65 in live testnet transactions
The Responsible Fintech Institute and Safeheron ran a live pilot that used NIST's ML-DSA-65 digital signature standard in multi-party institutional transactions on NEAR's quantum-resistant testnet, observed by regulators from Abu Dhabi, Bhutan and Malta. Safeheron implemented a non-custodial 2-of-2 MPC to produce valid ML-DSA signatures without reconstructing private keys, addressing the rejection-sampling challenge known as the lattice threshold trilemma. The test highlighted significant size and latency tradeoffs (3,309-byte signatures and larger public keys), an open-source commitment, and regulatory urgency driven by 2030–2035 deprecation timelines for vulnerable classical algorithms.
