Prosecutors reopen Cornell fraternity gang-rape case
A 101-page civil lawsuit filed on September 16 alleges a woman was drugged and gang-raped by seven men at the Chi Phi fraternity house at Cornell University on October 19, 2024, and includes Snapchat group-chat images. The complainant reported the incident to Cornell police in November 2024 but prosecutors initially declined charges, saying her first statement described voluntary drug use and sex. After the lawsuit and new materials, district attorney Matthew Van Houten said he will present the case to a grand jury; the university says it conducted its own hearing and imposed expulsions and suspensions.
