Man arrested for running international trafficking racket
Law enforcement in Dhaka arrested 47-year-old Mohammad Arzu Rahman after National Security Intelligence provided information tying him to an alleged international human trafficking syndicate. Authorities say he ran the operation for about 12 years, charging Tk 20–25 lakh per person with promises of jobs in Europe via Serbia and Belarus. Investigators allege victims were instead routed through Asian and Middle Eastern countries then sent to Egypt or Libya for risky sea crossings; three returned and two remain stranded. About 30–35 victims have contacted the SRB and investigators are communicating with roughly 300 others, with an initial estimate exceeding 2,000 possible victims.
