Judge gives final directions in Yorgen Fenech trial
Judge Edwina Grima has begun her final directions after 53 days of evidence in the trial of businessman Yorgen Fenech, who denies charges of complicity in the 2017 assassination of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia and membership of a criminal association. Prosecutors relied on communications, payments and testimony from pardoned intermediary Melvin Theuma to argue Fenech financed and commissioned the killing, while the defence attacked Theuma's credibility and pointed to alleged investigative gaps and the potential role of Keith Schembri. Earlier convictions of suspects who carried out or supplied the bomb do not decide Fenech's guilt, and the jury must now weigh the evidence under Maltese law.
