11 convicted over attempt to smuggle cannabis into UK
Eleven people were convicted for attempting to smuggle 460kg of cannabis, valued at £13.8 million, into the UK via Birmingham Airport after travelling from Thailand via Paris Charles de Gaulle in 2024. Investigators said each courier carried two suitcases containing around 20kg each, some concealed under a thin layer of clothing, and eight suitcases contained Apple AirTag trackers linked to the same Apple ID. Border Force detected the group after reviewing flight connections, the NCA investigated, and convictions were secured with sentencing hearings scheduled in September and October 2026.
