World Bank attracts US$112 billion in private capital
The World Bank said it mobilised US$112 billion in private capital in the year ended June, up from US$69 billion a year earlier and more than triple the amount in fiscal 2022 before Ajay Banga became president. That private capital complemented US$123 billion from the bank’s own resources for a combined US$235 billion. The bank is standardising and packaging loans to attract institutional investors and has set a target to exceed US$200 billion in private capital within two to three years. Project examples include a US$2.5 billion Rio Tinto lithium investment and a heavily oversubscribed bond for Guatemala’s Banco Industrial.
