US adds 43 Chinese firms to forced-labour import blacklist

The White House on Friday added 43 Chinese companies to a U.S. blacklist intended to block imports alleged to be made with forced labour in Xinjiang. The Department of Homeland Security said the Uygur Forced Labour Prevention Act entity list increased by about 30 percent and now names firms across food, cotton, pharmaceuticals, metals and lithium production. The notice cited sectors including seafood, gold, copper, transportation infrastructure, aluminium, tomatoes, garments and frozen food. Notable entries include capacitor maker Hunan Aihua Group and snack producer Chacha Food Co, which exports to close to 50 countries, expanding import restrictions and potentially tightening supply chains.
