Thailand attracts Infineon investment to expand semiconductor capacity
Thailand is using its FastPass framework to coordinate energy, customs, industrial estate and environmental approvals to accelerate implementation after Infineon announced a planned Samut Prakan complex across five modules, expected to become the company's largest back-end assembly and testing centre worldwide when fully developed. Officials tied the investment to a broader push for an AI-driven economy and said the project will support chips for electric vehicles, clean energy, data centres and industrial automation while driving technology transfer and high-skilled jobs. The BOI-promoted plan aims to create more than 5,000 skilled local jobs and includes training for 1,100 students, 60 specialised courses and 18 joint R&D projects.
