Study finds electric trucks cheaper to operate than diesel
A Transport & Environment study finds electric trucks have lower total cost of ownership than diesel in six of nine EU markets, representing 46 percent of new heavy truck sales in the EU. The report shows five-year savings of up to €100,000 in the Netherlands and €85,000 in Germany, with electric trucks paying themselves off after about two years; Chinese-made models raise Netherlands savings to €128,000. T&E says maintaining strong HDV CO2 standards, expanding CO2-based tolling and funding depot charging and grid upgrades would accelerate the switch and could make e-trucks cheaper across all nine countries by 2030.
