Eutelsat expands OneWeb with 229 Airbus satellites

Eutelsat agreed a €1 billion contract with Airbus for 229 additional low Earth orbit satellites, added to 440 satellites ordered in 2024–25, to replenish and expand the OneWeb network through 2034. The earlier 440-satellite deliveries are expected to start in the fourth quarter, and Eutelsat has also booked two Ariane launches for 2027 and 2028. The expansion follows efforts to raise roughly €5 billion after Eutelsat's $3.4 billion merger with OneWeb, and aims to secure services until the EU IRIS² secure communications constellation enters service near the decade's end.
